Matt Westberg is the founder of BergBlades LLC, a brand he launched in 2013 after years of fascination with knives that began in childhood. Growing up on the trails with a backpack and a knife, Matt always saw knives as essential tools — even sneaking his favorite one into school back in 4th grade (something you definitely couldn't get away with today). That early passion evolved into years of experimenting with custom builds, before ultimately shaping the production lineup of folding knives and fixed blades that BergBlades is known for today.
Matt's story goes beyond knife making. Since 2012, he has served as a firefighter, and also works as an engineer, boating operator and instructor, and rescue swimmer/instructor. His passion for pushing limits extends into endurance sports — he competes in marathons, ultramarathons, and cycling events — reflecting the same discipline and focus he brings to every knife he creates. For Matt, the skills, perseverance, and attention to detail required in both knife making and endurance athletics are two sides of the same coin: a commitment to design, precision, and performance under pressure.
